Smog Free Tower Rotterdam, world’s largest air-purifier

Daan Roosegaarde’s clean air zones

Together with his team of designers and engineers, Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde is working on a prototype of a Smog Free Tower, that would create a clean air zone outside.

At first this tower is intended for a location in Rotterdam (Vierhavenstraat, near Studio Roosegaarde). We expect this to be one of Rotterdam’s top-10 attractions. At least for tourists and visitors who are interested in environment and sustainability.

This smog solver is meant to move to other major cities too. So everyone can get acquainted with it. This way, Roosegaarde wants to bring NGO’s, concerned citizens and designers together in smog-free bubbles, to work on healthy cities around the globe.

Famous Roosegaarde projects

Daan Roosegaarde runs a design studio with offices in the Netherlands and Shanghai. He is involved in an artists’ collective that researches the boundaries between man and cyberspace. The designer is already famous for several of his projects, which are a always a combination of art, science and technology.

Museums in London (Tate Modern), Amsterdam, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Rotterdam exhibited Dune, an interactive landscape consisting of hundreds of LED lights that react on touch, sound and motion.

Naked skin dresses

Another interesting project is a sustainable dancefloor that produces electricity, when people are dancing on it.
In his fashion project ‘Intimacy’ Roosegaarde created dresses that can change in transparency, based on heart rate. The higher the frequency, the more naked skin exposure.

Vincent van Gogh cycle path

Roosegaarde recently got international attention for his a unique cycle track, just outside of Nuenen, a town in the southern part of the Netherlands. At dusk, cyclists will be surprised by a design of lights and colors, inspired by the famous work ‘The Starry Night’ of artist Vincent van Gogh.
Even the Daily Mail wrote an article about it, using words like ‘dazzling’ and ‘stunning’. We couldn’t agree more.

Smog free tower Rotterdam kick start

To produce this innovative Smog Free Tower Rotterdam, Roosegaarde’s project has been posted on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter, recently. For the world’s largest air purifier 50,000 euros is needed. We would be disappointed if he fails.
It is undeniably true, the world becomes a better place with this remarkable invention. Don’t you think so?

Update 15/08/14: Roosegaarde has managed to raise the required amount of 50,000 euros, thanks to Kickstarter. This youtube video reveals the result.
