Hear hear! The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest takes place in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 12 May and Thursday 14 May. The grand finale will take place on Saturday 16 May, 2020. The Rotterdam Ahoy Arena will be the stage for this unique music spectacle.
Victory Duncan Laurence gives Rotterdam the Eurovision 2020 event
“This is music first, always!” With those words, singer/songwriter Duncan Laurence accepted the Eurovision trophy, which he won for his killer song ‘Arcade’. For the first time in 44 years a Dutch song won the festival. After an exciting final in Tel Aviv, Israel last May, finally the tide turned for the Netherlands. Since the golden Teach-In song “Ding-a-dong” in 1975, the Netherlands has been unable to convince the juries. Until this year, yeah!
Rotterdam Ahoy Arena next Eurovision Song Contest temple
The city of Rotterdam applied to host the Eurovision Song Contest, and competed with a number of other Dutch cities. The venue was the deciding factor in the choice. The recently renovated Rotterdam Ahoy is the most suitable location to produce three state-of-the-art TV shows for more than 180 million viewers. Ahoy is used to host major events such as the MTV Awards and the Junior Songfestival.
The managers of Rotterdam Ahoy say that they are very honored to be able to accommodate such a large event. And they promise that hard work will be done in the coming months. The Eurovision Song Contest will be an unforgettable music spectacle and a wonderful event. Holland is the hosting country, Rotterdam is the perfect stage.
Hotels and B&B’s raise their prices
Now that it is known, where the Eurovision Song Contest is being held, hotel prices, and prices on Airbnb in Rotterdam are rising. There are approximately 5,500 rooms available in Rotterdam and the neighboring municipalities, but already half of them have been reserved for the organization of the EU song festival.
And immediately after the announcement, hundreds of tourists booked their accommodations too. Till now, most bookings came from England, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium and Spain. During the Grand final weekend top prizes will be asked for hotel rooms and private Bed & Breakfast addresses. There is even a chance that these all are fully booked, soon.

More than welcome in Rotterdam
The Eurovision Song Contest almost always takes place in the capital of the country that won the year before. However, Amsterdam quickly announced that it would not become an organizer. The city has no suitable location available, and has been struggling with a large wave of tourists for some time.
On the other hand, Rotterdam is very open to visitors. Tourists and fans of the Eurovision Song Contest will be welcomed with a sincere smile and open arms. Our city slogan won’t surprise you: Rotterdam, Make It Happen. This video shows you why that slogan is justified.
Although we don’t know which artist will represent the Netherlands in 2020, we already predict three great Eurovision events. We will keep you informed.
