Tiny hamburger restaurant in Witte de Withstraat
Ter Marsch & Co. is such a restaurant/bar, primarily meant for fast, casual dining, with a menu fully focused on meat lovers. Excited about their award for ‘best burger in the Netherlands 2015’ we visited this tiny restaurant in Witte de Withstraat, recognizable by its trendy industrial establishment with tiles, bricks and leaded windows.
Their prize winner is called ‘The Burgeresse’, 150 grams of Scottish Angus beef and Japanese Wagyu, with winter truffle gravy, young lettuce, pickles, plum tomato, red onion, farmhouse cheese and a home-made Ter Marsch sauce.
Award winning hamburger taste
We greatly enjoyed our award winning burgers, which are best described as pure, juicy, rich of flavours and… addictive. Each bite longed for the next one. Even without being burger tasting experts, we understand why the Burgeresse won the award. Of course there are more burgers on the menu and dry-aged entrecote, pulled pork and pastrami sandwiches for a change. Some of these are already on our list for a next visit.
Lots of foreign tourists
Ter Marsch & Co., the name comes from a former Rotterdam sausage factory that owned a butcher shop in Witte de Withstraat, is clearly a very popular restaurant. During our visit on a Friday afternoon, people of all ages came in for a meal, or a drink at the bar. We were surprised by the large number of foreign guests, probably visitors of the International Film Festival in Rotterdam (IFFR). But even without a festival crowd, we expect international interest.
The Dram Shop, 5 Napkin Burger, Market Table, Thunder Jackson’s, Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien
We wonder what would happen if Ter Marsch & Co. would battle the best burgers in New York City, according to NYC.com. It may prove to be a tough one for joints like The Dram Shop, 5 Napkin Burger, Market Table, Thunder Jackson’s, Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien.
